Some countries get a bit spoiled at the Olympics. The U.S.A., China, GB, Russia and other powerhouse nations win so many gold medals that one cannot possibly be expected to remember the name of each Olympic champion.
This is not a problem Colombians have had to deal with. They will not likely soon forget the name Mariana Pajon, winner of the women’s BMX final today. She did it in dominating fashion, winning all three of her semifinal heats and then leading from start to finish in the final. Not that winning is new to Pajon, she has been collecting national titles since she was 5, and world titles since she was 9.
Her gold medal was only the second in the history of her country, and at only 20 years of age she might also win the third, four years from now.
Felicitaciones Colombia!
