Congratulations to Christine Sinclair for being named Canada’s flag bearer for the closing ceremonies. Can’t think of a more fitting choice to represent and lead the Canadian Olympic athletes at the closing ceremony.“This is a huge honour and I wish I could have my teammates right here with me… We want the next generation of young girls to dream of being in the Olympics and getting a medal around their necks. If we can instill in them just the belief that this can happen, then we have done our jobs.” — Christine Sinclair

Some countries get a bit spoiled at the Olympics. The U.S.A., China, GB, Russia and other powerhouse nations win so many gold medals that one cannot possibly be expected to remember the name of each Olympic champion.
This is not a problem Colombians have had to deal with. They will not likely soon forget the name Mariana Pajon, winner of the women’s BMX final today. She did it in dominating fashion, winning all three of her semifinal heats and then leading from start to finish in the final. Not that winning is new to Pajon, she has been collecting national titles since she was 5, and world titles since she was 9.
Her gold medal was only the second in the history of her country, and at only 20 years of age she might also win the third, four years from now.
Felicitaciones Colombia!

Manu and his gang will look to bounce back against Team USA in the semis after falling to them 126-97 on Monday. That game was just a one point game going into the half in large part because of Manu’s ability to get in the lane and cause havoc.
Note to the Argentinian national team: avoid the cheap shots, that didn’t work so well for ya last time.

Canada’s loss to the U.S. in the women’s soccer semifinal on Monday was heartbreaking, obviously. Canada is still guaranteed its best finish ever in a major tournament (Olympics or Women’s World Cup), but that is no great consolation for the Canadian women—they wanted more.

And Christine Sinclair wanted more more than anyone. When the games are over there will be some discussion, as there always is, as to who was the ‘figure’ of the games. Bolt? Murray? For me the question is already answered, it’s Sinclair. I love the Olympics for many reasons, but first and foremost because it allows us the opportunity to shine the spotlight on those athletes who otherwise compete in relative obscurity. I’m glad that Canada, and the world, has had the chance to see one of the greatest female soccer players in world lifting herself and her team to unexpected heights.

Christine Sinclair has been voted Canadian soccer player of the year seven years in a row. She has been nominated by FIFA for world female player of the year five times. Tomorrow morning at 8AM Christine and the Canadian women will play France for bronze, do not miss your chance to watch her play.
